GWENT went flippin' mad yesterday as hundreds celebrated Shrove Tuesday.
There were dozens of events across the area, including the annual Pancake Day Race in Tintern.
Under the shadow of Tintern Abbey, workers from two pubs - the Moon and Sixpence and the Anchor Inn - went head to head.
It was the Anchor Inn team, consisting of David Yeomans, Paul Yeomans, Josh Richards and Jason Yoxall, who came out on top, although the Moon and Sixpence were consoled with victory in the three-legged race.
The event is organised each year by the Friends of Tintern, who use the money raised to put up Christmas lights in the town centre and hold a party for local elderly people.
Denise Yeomans, who runs the Anchor Inn, said: "Our team did very well, it was an exciting race and fun to watch."
Both the teams donated their prize money - which came to £30 - to the Friends of Tintern.
Janet Hill sits on the group's committee and helped to organise the day. She said that although the number of teams was slightly disappointing, it was still great fun.
"We were hoping for a few more of the pubs to come along, but in spite of that we still had a lot of fun. It's always exciting to watch and we had a good number of people who came down to watch.
"We hold the race every year because it's a nice tradition. I think it's important to keep these things going."
