JOE Calzaghe has his name in sport's history books, having produced one of the greatest performances of all time by a British boxer to unify the world super-middleweight titles.

Newbridge's Calzaghe, 33, overcame a serious wrist injury to annihilate America's IBF champion, Jeff Lacy, flooring him for the first time in his career and claiming every round on all three judges' scorecards.

The fight prompted Lacy's trainer, Dan Birmingham, to say: "I have never seen a better performance by any fighter, anywhere in the world."

Lacy himself said Calzaghe fought "a perfect fight".
