Local sports clothing company, JD Group Errea Limited of Newport, have been chosen as the official supplier of leisure wear to the Welsh Commonwealth Games Team (Team Wales) for the forthcoming 2006 Games in Australia, which kick off next week.

The contract includes a range of fashionable and highly practical leisure wear including tracksuits, rain suits, hooded tops, T-shirts, polo shirts and a selection of sports bags. Newport Triathlete Analise Heard visited JD Errea's facility at Leeway Industrial Estate, Newport, to pick up her official Team Wales kit before departing to the warmth of the Gold Coast to prepare for the games.

JD Errea is the official main distributor in Wales for the range of Italian sports clothing, which since its formation in 1988 has grown to dominate the sports clothing scene in Italy, providing football team wear for high flying Serie A teams. It is now emerging as the fastest growing sports brand in Europe.

Here in Wales the brand is fast becoming popular with top team names such as The Coca Cola Rhondda Rebels, the UK's number one basketball team, Pontypridd Rugby Club, UWIC, Newport County Football Club and even the Premier League with Middlesbrough FC.

JD Errea sales and marketing director Dave Reynish said: "These are exciting times for Errea and for Team Wales alike. We are extremely proud to be associated with such a great sporting occasion and such a talented team and hope that our support will provide a foundation for great medal success in Melbourne."

In addition to the leisure wear, JD Errea is supplying playing kit to some of the specialist teams, such as athletics, bowls and squash.

Team Wales director of operations David Evans said: "We are delighted to welcome Errea on board as the official leisurewear partner to Team Wales. "Our athletes can be assured that they will be provided with clothing of the highest quality and we are confident that it will be representative of a team that has achieved so much to secure their tickets to Melbourne."
