THERE are warning signs on Newport's Southern Distributor Road after bumps appeared on the road's surface.
The signs urge drivers to be cautious because of uneven surfaces at both ends of the Usk bridge, and on the stretch behind East Way Retail Park.
Yesterday the contractors who oversaw construction of the £55 million road said there was nothing to worry about.
Peter Frood, project manager with contractors Morgan Vinci, said: "There are bumps each side of the Usk crossing where the bridge joins the road
"It's just one of these things you find with a new road. We are planning to go there, perhaps one Sunday when it's quieter, bring a planer in and bring it level."
Mr Frood said it was not yet known how long the work would take or how much it would cost, but that it would be paid for by Morgan Vinci.
"There are several areas that need to be done and when you work at weekends, it can take longer. The intention is to cause as little inconvenience to the public as possible."
The 12.5km SDR, which runs from the Coldra roundabout to the Pont Ebbw roundabout, was opened in December 2004.
