GWENT could have its second world boxing champion later today when Cwmbran middleweight Gary Lockett bids to lift the vacant WRU title at the Newport Centre.
The Cwmbran KO specialist, winner of all but one of his 26 fights, the defeat later avenged, faces late replacement Gilbert Eastman, 33, winner of 20 of his 23 fights, 13 inside the distance.
Eastman has campaigned as a light-middleweight and is lower ranked in that division than Lockett is in the heavier category, so the Gwent fighter will start firm favourite to follow in the footsteps of the great Joe Calzaghe.
On the same bill, Newbridge's Bradley Pryce bids to win the Commonwealth light-middleweight title against Ghanaian champion Ossie Duran but faces a more difficult task.
