A CWMBRAN woman running this year's Flora London marathon is hoping her efforts will help hospices continue to provide vital care people with terminal illnesses.
Sarah Driscoll, 38, from Greenmeadow, is asking individuals and businesses to sponsor her as she raises money for Hospice Care UK. Her father, Paul Winfield, spent two weeks in St Anne's Hospice, Malpas, in 1998 shortly before dying of cancer at the age of 69.
She said: "The volunteer staff made him as comfortable as they could. It made me realise how generous the hospice staff are. All the work they do is from charitable donations.
"Hopefully this run will help them carry on providing this service." Mrs Driscoll is a silk-screen maker at the Technicolour DVD factory in Llantarnam.
She ran the half-marathon from Blaenavon to Cwmbran recently but this will be her first 26-mile event.
Mrs Driscoll said her training is going "really well", with regular 15-mile runs which will be extended to 17 and 20 miles in the run-up to the big day on Sunday, April 23.
