A LORRY driver died yesterday after an accident on the A40 near Abergavenny.
Gwent Police named the man as 43-year-old Paul James Jenkins, of Monmouth. The family of Mr Jenkins were too upset to comment.
Two heavy goods vehicles were involved in the collision at around 4.40am on Monday, near the Hardwick roundabout on the A40 between Raglan and Abergavenny.
Police described the accident as "extremely serious". Fire crews were called to the scene to cut the driver out of the wreckage but both were freed from their vehicles before firefighters arrived.
Mr Jenkins was taken by ambulance to Abergavenny's Nevill Hall Hospital before being transferred to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.
The road was closed for police investigation and re-opened several hours later.
