A TEENAGE yob who "terrorised" a Newport community was handed a five-year anti-social behaviour order by magistrates.
A dossier containing 91 incidents over a four-year period involving Marcus Ball was handed to the bench at Newport magistrates court.
They were told Ball, 19, of Broadmead Park, "terrorised the neighbourhood for many, many years".
Prosecuting on behalf of Newport council, Lee Reynolds listed a catalogue of incidents in the Broadmead Park and Moorland Park areas of the city.
They included Ball hurling stones at and verbally abusing residents and community safety wardens, spitting at residents and their children, threatening residents with weapons, assaulting residents, starting grass fires, taking and driving cars, speeding up residential streets in cars, throwing stones and eggs at passing cars, threatening to "torch" wardens' houses and charging at a community warden with a piece of wood. Magistrates heard Ball threatened to kill another community safety warden if he didn't "leave him alone".
Mr Reynolds said: "The application has been made by all the necessary parties and is made in the interests of the community."
The court also heard Ball, who did not turn up for yesterday's hearing, was regularly seen abusing drugs. An ASBO was issued in his absence by magistrates. It was not contested.
Speaking after the hearing, one resident, who did not wish to be named, welcomed the news.
"Yobs are always running riot around here," he said. "I'm pleased to hear they are being punished but the big test is whether or not it will make them change their ways."
Another resident said anti-social behaviour on the estate gave the area a bad name.
"It's only a small minority who are doing things like this but it's quite frightening when you hear the things they get up to. I hope punishments like this will make them stop."
THE five-year order bans Ball from: Engaging in conduct which causes or is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to any other person not of the same household as himself within England and Wales.
