THE DEMOLITION of Blackwood Bus Station began at the weekend as part of the town's 10-year regeneration strategy.
The knocking down and then redevelopment of the station is expected to take 38 weeks.
Buses will be stopping on Blackwood High Street while work takes place.
Caerphilly council deferred the work from the original start date of October when traders complained it would hurt their businesses during the busy Christmas period.
After listening to traders' concerns, the council is also organising a rates holiday, where business rates for nearby retailers will be partly deferred until after the work is completed.
Blackwood councillor Kevin Etheridge said he was pleased work had started.
"I have always supported the station," he said.
But he reminded people not to park their cars on the double yellow lines on the High Street.
"With the buses all stopping there, the cars are causing a hazard," he said. "The police have put up cones and I would ask people to take notice of these."
