A NURSERY owner is hoping his flowers will turn the heads of celebrities at this year's Chelsea Flower Show.

David Jones, manager of Penhow Nurseries, based at St Brides, Netherwent, said his displays over the last seven years attracted admiring glances from royals such as Prince Edward and wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex and stars including Cliff Richard.

And after winning a silver gilt award for last year's efforts, the 37-year-old is gunning for gold this time around.

"The celebrities have all said good things about our stand," said Mr Jones. "They usually say that we have done a good job."

Mr Jones, whose nursery has won three golds, three silver gilts and one silver since 1998, will be entering flowers in the Nemesia Diascia category. He said this year's display will include tiered coloured blocks of flowers and five new varieties.

"We're definitely going to get gold this year," he said. "We're looking forward to the show. The atmosphere is always electric."

The nursery sells five million of its full and colourful species every year and is the world's biggest producer of the plant.

The Chelsea Flower Show is being held from May 23 to 27.
