NEWPORT light flyweight Mo Nasir has a guaranteed Commonwealth Games bronze medal after beating Pakistan's Mu Nisar in this morning's quarter-final.
Nasir has been widely tipped for Games glory in Melbourne and now faces current Games silver-medallist Darran Langley in the semis.
Nasir won 30-15 after dominating from start to finish. "I'm getting better and better in each round and I'm delighted to have won a bronze medal, but I'm not done yet," he said.
"Darren Langley is next and I know he is confident but I'm going to show him who is the boss. I need two more wins for a gold medal and I know I can do it."
Wales' giant super-heavyweight Kevin Evans got things up and running with a stunning third round victory over Ghana's Haruna Osumanu winning 25-5 in his quarter-final.
It means the West Walian wins at least a bronze medal to go with the two he has won in the last two Games. Evans fights Australian Brad Pitt in the semi-final and admits he doesn't mind facing the home favourite in the next round.
He said: "I am absolutely delighted and over the moon to win this bronze. But I have two bronze medals already and I want to do better.
"I'm fighting the Australian in the next round, he will have a lot of support but I don't mind playing the bad guy, it brings the best out of me.
"I am so pleased with how I have boxed, everything went to plan and it all seems to be coming together.
"I haven't really thought about winning gold, but this is definitely my last chance at it and I'll give it my best shot."
While Nasir and Evans are through, Newport bantamweight Matthew Edmonds and Port Talbot featherweight Darren Edwards have to wait until tomorrow for their crack at glory.
Edmonds, who spars with Nasir, is desperate to follow in his stablemate's footsteps. He said: "I can't tell you what it would mean to win a medal here.
"Everyone in the boxing team is on such a high and I want to bring home some glory.
"This has been my life for 12 years and I don't want to let anyone down, I want a medal so bad and I'll do anything to get it."
Cardiff light-welterweight Jamie Algar-Crees also won bronze for Wales this morning, defeating Nigeria's Chuckwudi Nwaiwu 34-22.
