A TEACHER is running the London Marathon for a charity which supports those born with disfigurements.

Chepstow Comprehensive teacher Debbie Scroggs aims to raise £1,500 for Changing Faces.

The 45-year-old PE teacher wanted to give something back to the charity which helped her sister-in-law, Alison Rich.

When Alison was born the muscles in one side of her face weren't properly developed, leaving her with a disfigurement.

"She had a hard time with bullying," said Debbie, who also works at Rougemont School, Newport.

Alison now lives in London and works for Changing Faces, a charity which helps people like herself feel more positive about themselves.

Mum of three Debbie, of Newport Road, Chepstow, is set to be the first Chepstow Comprehensive teacher in 17 years to run the marathon. She said: "I'm pleased I can help lots of people who are less fortunate." A non-uniform day is being held at the school to raise money towards the £1,500 target.

Alison visited pupils last week to talk about what it's like to live with a disfigurement.

"They were mesmerised by what she had to say to them," said Debbie. "They've never heard of this sort of thing before."
