WORLD-class Irish folk singer-guitarist Alan Burke is to play at a Valleys guitar club on Friday, April 7, when Islwyn Guitar Club brings Alan Burke to the Crosskeys Hotel.

Alan's voice is exceptional. It is distinctively full of power, sensitivity and clarity, making it one of the most recognised voices on the Irish music scene.

His inexhaustible repertoire of traditional, Gaelic and contemporary songs is varied in mood and style and his presence and delivery demand the attention of his audiences.

His accomplished "dadgad"-based guitar playing is also powerful, but with an underlying sensitivity.

Alan has been a session musician, and worked as a drummer in his teens, and so the rhythm of his playing has been influenced by his skills as a percussionist.

He fronted the very successful Irish folk band Afterhours for much of the 90s before embarking on a solo career.

He has supported Christy Moore, Sharon Shannon, Moving Hearts and Altan. He has also played alongside Donal Lunny, Davy Spillane, Paddy Glackin and De Dannan, among many others.

The evening starts at 7pm with an informal one-hour workshop for guitarists.

The concert starts at 8.45pm following the usual play- around by club members and visitors.

Tickets cost £6 (£4 concessions) and will be available from Rob on 01495 270078.
