A BRAVE Gwent youngster who lost a leg during her ongoing battle with cancer is due to have an artificial limb fitted in the next few weeks.

Jade Morgan, three, is recovering at home in Pontypool after a ten-month battle with cancer, which has seen her undergo surgery to remove a tumour in her right leg and countless gruelling chemotherapy sessions.

Doctors had hoped they could get rid of the cancer by removing Jade's leg in January but subsequent tests showed abnormal cells were still present in the bone marrow.

Jade is currently at home for two weeks after being released from the University of Wales Hospital, Heath, Cardiff earlier this week.

She faces a further six week-long sessions of chemotherapy during the coming months, but is due to be cast for her first artificial limb in the next few weeks.

Mum Zoe Clark, of Newman Road, Trevethin, said: "This is the longest time she has been out of hospital for months. It's fantastic to have her home.

"She is very brave and is coping well... she keeps us going."

Miss Clark is even hopeful Jade can begin to attend nursery soon.

Since the Argus first told of the three-year-old's plight on Christmas Eve, the Pontypool community has rallied to support her and her mother - raising almost £2,000 to be put into trust for the youngster and buy her a tailored artificial leg after she has stopped growing.

Miss Clark, 22, said local people had been "fantastic", posting letters and cards through the letter box of her home.

"Everybody has been wishing Jade well. I just want to say a big thank you to everyone, especially those who have raised money."

Schoolgirl Chloe Millet, 12, from Abersychan raised £600 after organising a non-uniform day at her school in Abersychan.

New Inn singing teacher BrigetteThomas and her group of performers held a concert at St Mary's Church earlier this year and raised around £1,500.

Members of the Pontypool Round Table have told Miss Clark they will help pay for anything Jade might need to help her through her battle.
