VANDALS attacked a Gwent football club changing-rooms, causing hundreds of pounds' worth of damage, just weeks after a £30,000 refit was completed.
Manager of Cwmbran Celtic Andrew Meaney blasted the "idiotic yobs" who smashed their way through the club's changing block, slashing pipes and flooding the building.
The club spent £30,000 on its facility since August, and Mr Meaney told the Argus the attack was "galling".
"We had the work done specifically so we could play in the Welsh League Division Three - it's our first season," he said.
Vandals broke into the changing block off Llantarnam Road on Tuesday afternoon.
They smashed doors and attacked pipes, causing the floor to be flooded by two inches of water.
"What's worse is that there is absolutely nothing of any worth here, this is just wanton destruction," he said.
As well as the first team, the club caters for about 300 players, both male and female, from the age of eight upwards.
The recent refurbishment, which included new showers and wash facilities, was paid for mainly by fundraising events, with some help from Torfaen council.
"We can just about be up and running for Saturday, but I don't know what the cost is yet," said Mr Meaney.
He added: "The doors alone will cost several hundred pounds." It is believed the vandals struck sometime between 3.30pm and 5.30pm.
A police spokeswoman said officers were investigating the incident. If you can help call Cwmbran police on 01633 838111 or ring Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555111.
