ANOTHER key part of Newport's £5 million footbridge was brought to the banks of the River Usk yesterday.
The latest section of decking - 28 metres long and five metres wide - travelled through the city from Rowecord Engineering, Pill, on the back of a giant lorry.
It took about 20 minutes for the 36-metre lorry to make the 12-mile journey.
Because of the size of the section of bridge the lorry had to travel along Usk Way and the M4 before travelling down Heidenheim Drive and into the city centre.
Last Wednesday the first piece of the central section was transported on the same route.
Another three similar-sized units will be taken to the site near the Newport Centre in the coming weeks.
Steel fabrication firm Rowecord will use the UK's biggest crane to assemble the 850-tonne structure.
During the week beginning April 24 it will arrive in the city with the help of a fleet of 42 articulated lorries. Work will then begin on May 1.
The impressive £5 million structure, spanning the River Usk, will feature four massive crane-like masts and should be open to pedestrians and cyclists in the summer.
