Panic! At The Disco are being raved about for their cross of bleary indie and disco.

Their songs such as, The Only Difference Between Martyrdom And Suicide Is Press Coverage, might start off as indie dirges but end up with a stomping beat and glow-sticks.

On numbers such as Intermission they pull out all the stops and produce something a bit avant garde.

And at their best, as on There's A Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven't Thought Of It Yet, they're as eloquent and lyrical as The Artic Monkeys.

They're from Las Vegas and are to tour the UK for the first time this year. Since tickets went on sale the band has released its debut album, A Fever You Can't Sweat Out, and a download-only single titled I Write Sins Not Tragedies.

Panic! At The Disco is Ryan Ross (guitar), Spencer Smith (drums), Brendon Urie (vocals, guitar), and Brent Wilson (bass).

It all started in the suburbs of Las Vegas when 12-year-old Ryan Ross asked his parents for a guitar for Christmas.

Not to be outdone, neighbourhood friend Spencer Smith begged his parents for a drum set so the duo could start jamming.

"Really, from that first year (playing instruments), all we really did was cover Blink 182 songs," said Spencer.

The band eventually matured, moved on and recruited classmates Brent Wilson and Brendon Urie on bass and vocals, respectively.

With the final line-up now in place, the newly christened Panic! At The Disco (from a line in the Name Taken song) Panic started practising in Spencer's grandmother's living room and began crafting the songs that would eventually make their way onto A Fever You Can't Sweat Out. Panic! At The Disco were still at High School when they signed to the label Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen.

They were introduced to the label's management by Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy.

"We really clicked with Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen and they understood what we wanted to do as a band," Ryan said.

Soon after signing, things got serious and started moving forward at a rapid pace.

More recently they toured the UK with Chicago band and label mates The Academy Is. The band has also been causing a stir on myspace.com. Find them at Cardiff Uni Union on Park Place on Wednesday, April 19 with My Chemical Romance and The Ataris.
