DOGS from across Gwent put their best paw forward yesterday as they competed in an annual show.
About 300 people turned out for the Companion Dog Show and Family Fun Day in Rogerstone to cheer their pets on.
Competing canines were put to the test as they leapt over hurdles and strutted around the ring.
Dogs of all shapes and sizes, including two wolf hounds, took part in the event at the Welfare Grounds, Tregwilym Road.
The show, organised by a charity which cares for abandoned greyhounds, has been running for three years.
Entrants battled for titles such as waggiest tail and best behaved puppy, picked by judges.
The appealing eyes category proved to be the most popular, attracting 36 entries.
Other animal rescue charities such as Badger Rescue and Dogs for Disabled turned up to show their support.
Paula Ambrose, co-ordinator for Greyhound Welfare, said: "It's a way of having fun as well as showing our support for other groups."
