Newport was an opportunity hotspot in March when Job Scene The Roadshow came to town and visited Newport Centre.
The popular event, which has been visiting Newport for three years and is held in connection with the South Wales Argus, supported by The Welsh Assembly, Careers Wales and Jobcentre Plus, took place at the Newport Centre on March 16 and proved a successful day for all involved.
An impressive sell-out show with more than 45 exhibitors, Job Scene welcomed more than 2,700 visitors who checked out the hundreds of recruitment, career, training and education opportunities on offer.
A spokesman for the Argus said: "Job Scene is always an outstanding success for us. With the large numbers of people who visit our stand we are confident that vacancies will be filled. If you are looking to recruit new staff we would highly recommend this event!"
With face-to-face interaction at the top of the list for exhibitors, the roadshow ensured they were inundated with enquiries about the opportunities they had available. With positive feedback from all, exhibitors were pleasantly surprised that time out of the office could be so well spent, saving them both time and money.
Exhibitors NatWest/Royal Bank of Scotland had a positive time at the event and were already looking forward to Job Scene 2007. A spokesman said: "We had an excellent response at Job Scene and lots of interest. We saw good quality candidates which will hopefully lead to pipeline candidates for Newport and Cardiff. I would definitely recommend Job Scene to other organisations - I would also like to be invited back again next year."
Exhibitor Dial/Yes Loan was so impressed with the quality of candidates it saw that it booked on the spot for next year.
Lee Sheehan, recruitment co-ordinator with Dial/Yes Loan, said: "A brilliant day, we gave out 250 packs containing application forms and had 51 people booked for interviews. We found that the staff could not do enough to help everyone. Altogether a very well organised function, see you all next year!"
Gwent Police were actively recruiting to the posts of PCSOs.
A large percentage of visitors were interested in the fast track recruitment day organised for the special constabulary and police staff vacancies gained a large audience.
Rhian Thomas, personnel officer for police recruitment, said: "Job Scene is extremely beneficial from both a recruiting perspective and also in order to build upon company profile and reputation. The majority of visitors to the stand demonstrated a high calibre in line with force requirements."
