NP Life looks back at the Queen's visits to Newport over the years.
To celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's 80th birthday later this month, we've been trawling through our files to see what pictures we could find of her in Newport.
Her first trip to the then town was back in 1944 as Princess Elizabeth with her parents to open the recently built Civic Centre, see the picture above.
She was back again in 1953 shortly after becoming Queen.
Another visit by The Queen to Newport happened in 1962 and she came back to the area in 1977, her silver jubilee year, when she visited Risca and Caerphilly.
Her most recent trip was to celebrate Newport's city status being granted. She was here in June 2002. The trip was also part of her golden jubilee trip around Wales.
