Newport Everest Group Wasps look to get their Premier League season off to a perfect start and extend their unbeaten home start to the season when they entertain Edinburgh Monarchs on Sunday (tapes-up 2.30pm).
And the Wasps go into the meeting on a high following a Premier Trophy home win over Somerset, laced with exhilarating racing, although they failed to land the bonus point.
Tim Stone, Newport promoter, said: "People were raving about the racing long after the meeting had ended. You were left with a feel-good factor running high."
It was the racing of Neil Collins and Carl Wilkinson which brought main stand fans from either side of the water to their feet. And Stone reckons there is still better to come - and from all his riders.
He added: "The form of every rider was good and I feel there is more to come from each and every one."
The meeting with Edinburgh forms the main part of a double header, Buxton the visitors in a Conference League clash. And it will give a chance for both sides to make a close examination of one another because they meet later in the season for a Knock-out Cup clash.
Stone added: "Not only will Edinburgh be after the league points but they'll be sizing us up for the cup meetings next month. But we want to get off to a good start in the league."
- Newport reserve Joel Parsons rides in the British final of the World Under-21 championships at King's Lynn tonight.
- Carl Wilkinson is first reserve for the semi-final meeting of the Great Britain championship at Rye House on Saturday and Welshman Phil Morris is in the 16-rider line-up. The top six go through to the final which is being held at Belle Vue, Morris' home track.
- Wasps will ride their postponed away meeting with King's Lynn at the Norfolk Arena on May 14.
