A 40-year-old woman was found dead in her Cwmbran flat at the weekend and police are treating it as suspicious.
A woman aged 38 arrested in connection with the death was last night bailed pending further inquiries.
The 40-year-old was reported dead on Saturday morning by her partner, who alerted the ambulance service.
Her body was found with what police said initially were "minor injuries" in the bedroom of her flat in Sirhowy Court.
The ambulance service contacted police at 10.50am.
A Gwent Police spokesman told the Argus the woman had been there at least overnight. A post-mortem examination took place on Saturday to try to establish the cause of death.
Police sealed off the building while forensic teams gathered evidence.
Police were still at the scene last night. Residents in the block of flats said they did not know the woman but said she lived with her partner.
One neighbour, Philip Rawlings, 27, said: "I've been told some things about what happened in that block of flats but we just don't know."
A resident from the same block said: "This is a nice area and so it's a bit shocking to have to walk under police tape to get out the house. I have heard people in that flat before but I don't know the people who live there."
Another resident in the street said: "There are a lot of rumours going round about what happened, but no one seems to know."
A police spokeswoman said: "Inquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of death. We would like to appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity between about 2.30am and 2.45am on Saturday to get in touch with us on 01633 838111."
A 38-year-old woman was arrested on Saturday in connection with the death and was bailed at 5.30pm yesterday.
