A NEWPORT councillor says it is only a matter of time an area covered in household waste becomes a health hazard.
Allt-Yr-Yn Councillor David Fouweather said the field, on the Barracks Field Estate, needed to be cleared before the weather became any warmer.
"Soon there will be rodents there and it will start stinking," he said.
"It's right next to the park, which has a small children's play area. It can't be healthy." He said he had reported the fly-tipping to Newport council at least five times in the last six months.
"There is everything down there," he said.
"There are three-piece suites, old fridges, trolleys and household waste, even an old paddling pool."
He is now calling on residents not to dump any more rubbish on the area. "People are only having their waste collected once a fortnight and that is not enough," he said.
"But dumping it here doesn't help anyone.
"The council will collect large pieces like sofas for a small fee."
A council spokesman said: "If someone has details of fly-tipping offences including the identity of an individual or car and time and date of offences we would ask that they report it to the council immediately by calling 01633 656 656."
