IT'S not Three Lions on a shirt, but three Welsh-Italians on a record. Enzo Calzaghe, father of double world champion boxer Joe, teamed up with his brothers Sergio and Uccio to record a song supporting the England team during the World Cup this summer.
"We would have loved to record one for the Wales team but they didn't qualify," said boxing coach Enzo, from Newbridge.
The song, called England, Oh England, was written by Enzo, his brothers, and boxer Glenn McCrory, and was distributed by Gwent-based record company Silverword Records. Enzo also sings on the track.
He said: "I've been a musician since I was 14. Boxing can be very overtaking, and music is my therapy."
The song, he said, is catchy enough to take it all the way to the top. "It's a very easy, catchy tune - people have told me they can't sleep after listening to it because it stays in their head so long."
The group have called themselves The Crowd, and Enzo is hoping the song will bring them success. Kevin King, director of Silverword Records, said the song was written for the fans.
He said: "It's all about football, which is what's important. Most of all it's for the fans and everyone who will join in with the World Cup." Mr King added that the aim of his record label is to promote Welsh artists and groups like The Crowd.
He said: "We are trying to develop good Welsh artists." England Oh England is available in record shops now. The official England song, World At Your Feet, has been recorded by Embrace.
Previous World Cup songs include Baddiel and Skinner's Three Lions (1998), New Order's World in Motion (1990) and This Time (We'll Get It Right) by the 1982 England squad.
