NEWPORT may have had the beached whale nearly two years ago - now it's getting Moby Dick.
The Riverfront is staging a show based on Moby on Thursday, May 18 at 7.30pm until Saturday, May 20.
Moby Dick is the tale of the captain and crew of the 19th Century whaling ship the Pequod, which voyages out of Nantucket, Massachusetts, in pursuit of a fabled, cunning and notorious quarry.
The story follows the fortunes of Captain Ahab and members of his crew including Ishmael, the novice mariner, Starbuck and Stubb the ship's mates, Queequeg and Tashtego the harpooners, and Pip, the cabin boy.
For three years Ahab rages across the seas, whipped on by his obsession with the elusive white monster. During the voyage they encounter other vessels whose crews warn Ahab of the dangers of pursuing Moby Dick.
Moby Dick is a compelling tale of human endeavour, a great struggle, fought out on tumultuous seas. An epic account of one man and his crew who dare to shake a fist in the face of God and suffer terrible consequences.
Compass Theatre Company has an international reputation for productions acclaimed by critics and audiences alike for their passion, intelligence and chutzpah.
There will also be a post-show question and answer session on Friday. May 19.
Ticket prices are £14.50, £13.50 and £12. Tickets on 01633 656757,or www.newport.gov.uk/riverfront
