THREE Newport companies beat 50 others from the area and were given awards for thriving despite the tough economic climate.

Davies Florists of Upper Dock Street, Ti22 Vehicle Services of Blenheim Road and Leo’s Fish Bar of Caerleon Road were all given Swift Awards.

The awards recognise companies that deliver quick, reliable and best value service.

Companies were judged on how they set prices, resolve complaints and retain customers.

Ti22 was only set up five months ago to valet and service high-end cars and is run solely by James Walker.

“I was nominated by customers and the award was a surprise to me,” he said. "But it shows, even though it’s a new business, it is coming on.”

Davies Florists has operated at Newport indoor market since 1942 and is now run by the third generation of the same family.

Owner Johanna Davies said she is passionate about providing customers with “beautiful bouquets”.

Leo’s Fish Bar was founded 35 years ago. Judges said it demonstrates excellent value for money.

The awards are run by insurance firm swiftcover.com, with a recommendation of service certificate given to winners.
