THEY are best known for their explicit and controversial lyrics, but members of Newport rap group.

Goldie Lookin’ Chain became straight-laced prison officers for a couple of days.

The musicians spent yesterday filming In Gilwern, near Abergavenny, for Cwmbran film company Creative Academi’s educational drama aimed at deterring young people from committing crimes.

John Rutledge, 33, also known as Eggsy, and Adam Sadler, 30, also known as Adam Hussain, embraced their roles as hardened screw Greg Parfitt and his more compassionate colleague Alan Woods - even creating their own subplots for their characters.

Fellow group member Rhys Hutchings, 33, played parole officer Mr Richardson.

"Consequences", which will be shown in schools and youth groups next year to highlight the consequences of committing crimes, follows Rhian McCarthy who is arrested for drugs offences, convicted in court and sent to prison.

The prison scenes were filmed at Gilwern Outdoor Education Centre yesterday.

GLC got involved in the project after Creative Academi's Sally Martin emailed asking them to take part.

Eggsy had not acted since he played the Lion in the Wizard of Oz at school.

He said: "It’s good to get involved in a local project with a strong message behind it and it’s been fun."

Adam Hussein said the last part he played was Winston Churchill in a school play, in which he mucked his one and only line up.

Once filming is over they will turn their attention to recording their new album and will tour the UK in December.

Around 25 people, including voluntary actors and students from the University of Wales, Newport, are involved in making the hour-long film.

Last month the crew borrowed a police car for the arrest scene from Risca police station and shot court scenes at Sessions House in Usk.
