A NEWPORT organist has devoted the last 60 years to a Caerleon church.
Douglas Davies, 80, has been the assistant organist at St Cadoc's Church for the last 60 years and has no intention of stopping.
Mr Davies, of Knighton Court, Caerleon, took on the role in October 1949 shortly after joining the choir.
This was in the same year that his own father was appointed as vicar of the church.
Mr Davies started in the role as assistant to organist Vernon Thorn and went on to assist five other organists.
A special service will be held at the church on Sunday to mark Mr Davies’ 60 years where he will be joined by his family, friends and former choristers.
The church’s organist Geoffrey Jenkins said Mr Davies had been a most able and reliable assistant to all organists and a good friend.
