A BLAENAU Gwent man has reached the final of the nation’s search for a Digital Hero after developing a website which provides information and support to disabled people and their carers.
Steven Evans, 45 of Swffryd, set up the Disability Advice Project three years ago after finding disabled people were struggling to access information and advice on their rights.
The Disability Advice Project website, based in Cwmbran, provides details on issues including benefit rights, access issues and housing. It gets around 3,000 enquiries a year.
Mr Evans, who has cerebral palsy, was picked as one of the three candidates in Wales and one of 36 finalists to compete in the TalkTalk Digital Heroes Awards, which recognises people who use digital technology to make a difference.
The winner gets a £10,000 technology grant, which Mr Evans would use to create informative digital stories on the history of disability for the website.
He said: "It is fantastic to be nominated. I set up the site as I found people were struggling to access information, particularly those who suffer from sight problems.
This site allows the text size to be altered to help with that."
Those with the most votes from each region will be honoured at a ceremony at the House of Lords on November 24.
To vote for Mr Evans visit www.talktalk.co.uk/vote before October 23.
