A TORFAEN school could soon boast the greenest greenhouse in the area.
Children from Ponthir Church in Wales School are making the six foot by four foot greenhouse using old two litre plastic bottles.
When the project is finished at the end of the term, around 1,500 bottles will have been used which have all been donated by staff, pupils and parents.
Ten pupils, who are members of the school’s greenhouse club have been spending one hour each week working on the structure.
Bottoms of the bottles are cut off and the bottles are then threaded together with canes to make the walls around a wooden framework.
The pupils hope to start growing plants in the greenhouse next spring.
Teacher Robin Townley said: “Pupils are so enthusiastic about green issues and they love the thought of having one of the greenest greenhouses around.”
This project comes following the prestigious Eco School’s Green Flag award which the school achieved last term after drawing up an eco action plan which looked at ways of saving energy and recycling in the school.
