A PARLIAMENTARY committee meeting was held on Wednesday to discuss plans for Severn tidal power.

The energy select committee met to discuss the shortlisted proposals which includes a hydro-electric barrage between Cardiff and Weston-Super-Mare.

The committee is looking at a range of technologies including embryonic technology.

Energy Minister Lord Hunt said this option is waiting for the technology to develop.

A spokesman for the department of energy and climate change said if it discovers these technologies need further development then it is only right and proper it takes time to assess it.

But he said a decision is still expected to be made next year which will follow a second public consultation.
