POLICE stopped more than 200 cars, seizing 12 of them, and arrested three people as part of a month-long campaign against illegal driving in Valleys towns.

Officers from Abertillery and Brynmawr Neighbourhood Policing Teams were responding to concerns raised by residents at PACT meetings.

Some cars were seized for not having insurance, two people were disqualified from driving after their dangerous driving was caught on CCTV and 55 fines were handed out for offences including not wearing a seatbelt and having a defective exhaust.

Two people were arrested for public disorder and one for driving while disqualified.

Officers also issued nine notices to drivers deemed to be driving in an anti-social way.

If they get another notice within 12 months, their car will be seized.

Seven of the 12 cars seized were down to drivers getting their second notice.

Officers worked with the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA), the council and the police's Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) team.

VOSA handed out ten prohibition notices to drivers in Brynmawr for their cars not being road worthy. These cars are taken off the road until the repairs are carried out.
