ALMOST 4,000 bikers rode in to Chepstow today for the finale of the 10th annual Hoggin’ the Bridge.
One of the biggest biking events in the country, it also attracted thousands of spectators to the town centre as they lined the streets to welcome the motorcylists at the end of their 22 mile route.
The group started at the Old Severn Bridge around 10am, then travelled through Magor, Rogiet, and Caldicot before pulling into the main square in Chepstow in front of a live band and waving crowds.
Two thousand bikers confirmed they would be riding beforehand and around 2,000 more turned up on the day, leading organisers to estimate at least £20,000 has been raised for charities including Mencap, the Meningitis Trust, and the Air Ambulance Trust in Wales and Bristol.
Monmouthshire county councillor Jacqui Sullivan took part in the event for the first time and said the event had been a huge success.
“It’s great for Chepstow and puts us on the map,” she said. “People come with their grand parents and grand children, and it’s just a great day out.”
Former Gwent Dragons star Jason Forster took part for the third year. He said: “If we can raise money while enjoying our hobby at the same time, then it's worth while.”
