MORE THAN £10,000 was taken from a security guard in a robbery outside Tesco Cardiff Road in Newport on Friday night.
The guard was pushed to the ground and a box containing the money was taken during the incident at around 7.44pm.
He was delivering the money to the store when he was approached by the man wearing dark clothing and white trainers.
It is believed the robber had two or possibly three accomplices and they left the scene in a dark, possibly blue, four-door car. On leaving the Harlech Retail Park they drove towards the Tredegar Park roundabout.
The security guard was unhurt but left shaken after the robbery. It is believed he was working for Group 4 Securicor.
The store remained open, but a cordon was established around the location of the incident.
A Gwent Police spokesman said the amount taken was a five figure sum, more than £10,000.
Detective Inspector Roger Fortey said: "Given the location of the incident and the number of people in the area, it is likely that there were people around that might have witnessed the robbery."
Any witnesses should phone Gwent Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
The Argus asked the Gwent Police control room for more information on descriptions of the individuals they are looking for, the make and model of the car used by the robbers, CCTV footage, a description of what was stolen and precisly how much money was taken.
Police are unable to give any more details at the moment.
