A CONSULATION into a new Welsh school in Griffithstown has ended, with Torfaen cabinet due to make a decision on the plans tomorrow.
The authority wants to open a third Welsh-medium primary school and nursery in the current Griffithstown Infants building.
Pupils from Griffithstown infants pupils would be accomodated in a remodelled and extended Griffithstown Juniors site.
The new school's catchment area will cover New Inn, Panteg, Cwmyniscoy, Trevethin, St Cadocs and Penygarn.
If plans are approved, the age range covered by Ysgol Bryn Onnen would also be extended from 4-11 to 3-11, allowing a nursery school to be established at the Welsh-medium school.
A total of 63 people attended consultation meetings with "overwhelming support" for the proposals, a cabinet report said.
Worries were however expressed that the proposed new Griffithstown School would generate extra traffic.
Members of Torfaen's Cabinet will consider the proposals at their meeting tomorrow.
