A MAN caught trying to break in to a Newport home is being sought by Gwent police.

A homeowner on Cefn Road in the Rogerstone area of Newport returned home on October 5 between 5.45pm and 6pm to find a man trying to get in to the rear of the house.

When the man was disturbed, he ran off down Cefn Road toward Risca and police are now appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

The man is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall and of slim build. He was wearing a dark beanie hat and a navy sports jacket.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the incident, particularly a man who stopped to talk to the homeowner immediately after the offender ran off. This man was driving a white car, thought to be a Ford Fiesta, with a green or blue company logo on the side.
