A CHEPSTOW man was in a critical condition in hospital last night following an incident in the town's bus station.
Two middle-aged men, both from Chepstow, were allegedly assaulted by two younger men at 2.50am on Sunday, said Gwent Police.
Both alleged victims were taken to Newport's Royal Gwent Hospital.
One suffered serious head injuries and was later transferred to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, where the 44-year-old's condition was described as critical as the Argus went to Press last night.
The other man suffered bruising and was released from hospital the same day as the incident.
A 20-year-old man was charged with grievous bodily harm and common assault and appeared before Newport magistrates on Monday.
Malcolm Webb, of Castle Lodge Crescent, Caldicot, was remanded in custody until October 26.
A 18-year-old man was also arrested and questioned. He was released on bail pending further inquiries.
