A TWELVE-year-old girl was sexually assaulted as she walked to an after-school club in Newport last week.
It is believed to have happened as the girl was walking along Warwick Lane off Chepstow Road in Maindee at about 6.30pm on Wednesday, October 14.
The girl’s mother said her daughter was walking along the pavement when the man appeared out of nowhere and dragged her into the lane.
She said she kicked, screamed and shouted before managing to get away from him.
The girl’s parents were informed and they called the police who arrived at their home within ten minutes.
The mum said her daughter was questioned and gave police a description of her alleged attacker and her daughter’s clothes and trainers taken away by police.
She said the girl is putting on a very brave face and did not go to school the day after the assault but did go in on Friday with a lift to and from school.
She added: “She is very upset but is keeping it all to herself.”
The girl’s mother said they have had very little support from the police.
The girl’s attacker is described as a black teenager aged about 16.
He is five foot six inches tall, of slim build, with short hair shaved at the sides.
He was wearing a a waist-length dark coloured jacket with an Addidas or Mackenzie logo on the chest.
He was also wearing dark jeans and white trainers and had a local accent.
Police said they are investigating the incident and said they will be contacting the girl’s mother to see if she has any concerns.
Police asked anyone with information or concerns to contact Gwent Police on 01633 838111.
