A FLEUR de Lys woman opened a Reiki parlour after becoming interested in the Japanese energy treatment when she was recovering from an operation.
Vanda Gould, 49, suffered a collapsed hernia after a hysterectomy operation three years ago, leaving her unable to work as a classroom assistant.
While she was unemployed she became bored and started researching energy treatments, through which she discovered Reiki – a treatment in which hands are laid over the body in a sequence of positions to reduce stress and encourage relaxation.
Ms Gould was taught Reiki by Reiki Master Christine Hurn and last month opened her own parlour at Inspirations hair salon in High Street, Fleur de Lys.
Her clients visit to relieve headaches, back problems, stress, anxiety, stomach upsets and asthma – although Reiki is used alongside medical treatment and not as an alternative.
She charges £15 for an hour-long session and £10 for half an hour.
Ms Gould said: "Reiki flows to the area of need, soothing pain and supporting the body's natural ability to heal itself.
"During treatment people can sleep, relax or talk through their problems with me."
