THIS Newport mum kept a clear head when her 18-month-old son choked on a sweet, thanks to training from the Welsh Ambulance Service.
Joanne Salter knew exactly what to do when her son Morgan began choking on a raisin.
Remembering her resuscitation training Ms Salter, 37, of Brynglas Avenue, put her son over her knee and gave him two sharp back slaps.
The sweet flew straight out of his month.
"I surprised myself because I didn't get flustered or panic. I just acted straight away," said Ms Salter.
Her instructor Carl Morton, 44, said Ms Salter has done "remarkably well", remembering her teaching and remaining calm while she carried them out.
"You always hope they never have to use what you teach, but you know that if they do then it could be a matter of life and death," he said.
