A CONTROVERSIAL decision to cut Territorial Army funding was reversed after the UK Prime Minister personally intervened.
Politicians including Monmouth MP David Davies and South Wales East AM Jocelyn Davies voiced opposition to a decision by UK armed forces minister Bill Rammell to cut the TA budget by £20million, which would have suspended routine training until April.
Mr Rammell staged a partial climbdown on Monday, when he announced a “small adjustment” of £2.5million to allow TA soldiers to train one night a month.
But last night, Gordon Brown stepped in and reversed the original decision, reinstating the full budget.
Conservative MP David Davies called the partial climbdown an insult and said the cuts to the TA budget were a “slap in the face” for TA members.
Mr Davies was due to speak at an opposition day debate on the budget cuts today, until the reversal decision was made.
