FOOTY fans can hone their skills at a state-of-the-art football centre set to open in Lliswerry next week.
The purpose-built Gol Football Centre boasts six five-a-side pitches, as well a seven-a-side pitch and to mark its official opening, the centre is offering free pitch hire between November 3 and November 13.
Wales International Chris Gunter cut the first sod on the project back in June and the centre will officially open its doors on Tuesday.
Gwilym Boore, one of Gol’s three directors, said: “We want to be able to offer players a chance to play on quality pitches in great surroundings. Footballers in south Wales, whatever their ability, deserve the best facilities and that’s what’s on offer here.”
A partnership between Gol Centres and Lliswerry High School, the centre will host five-a-side leagues, one-day tournaments, corporate events, children’s birthday parties and casual hire. Pupils at Lliswerry High School will use the pitch during school time.
The seven pitches have a rubber crumb ‘Soccer Turf’ surface and facilities also include a clubhouse, changing rooms and hot showers.
Mr Boore added: “The thinking behind our centre is summed up in our motto - ‘You’re always good enough.
"Anyone can enjoy the facilities at Gol whether they play currently or had previously given up due to muddy pitches or permanently broken showers.
Our target market is simply anyone who has an interest in playing football.”
