NEWPORT businesses have been praised for their work with Duffryn Community Link at a special reception with the Prince of Wales.

Representatives from the Newport community group and city business leaders visited the Prince’s Llwynywermod residence last week for the his Seeing is Believing event, which celebrates the success of the Business in the Community scheme.

As part of the initiative, firms including Welsh Water, FWD Law Associates and local branches of HSBC have worked closely with the Duffryn staff on a range of community projects.

Free legal advice is being provided by FWD Law to replace the Citizen’s Advice Bureau in Duffryn, and Welsh Water took children on day trips including a visit to Clearwell Caves in Gloucestershire and to Malvern Garden and County Show for gardening students from the area.

Director of Duffryn Community Link Helen Dearden said: “We were all congratulated on how the businesses and the charity have worked to get all this good work out in the community. We’re delighted.”

Director of Business in the Community Wales Owen Evans said the success of the scheme showed business leaders could help to shape local communities.
