MORE than 100 varieties of apple, cider, perry and apple juice were tasted at an event in Chepstow yesterday.

Visitors to the town’s first Apple Day at the Drill Hall also took part in apple pressing, cider-making demonstrations and competitions for both adults and children.

Local cooks entered apple pies and tarts into the Chepstow Apple Dessert Prize Challenge and won cash prizes.

Over the past two years Chepstow Town Council has planted over a hundred apple trees in the town to recreate the community orchards it used to be famous for.

The council teamed up with the Drill Hall and Transition Chepstow to host the event.
