POLICE have not yet been able to identify a pedestrian who died after she was struck by a heavy goods lorry on the M4.

The woman, who is thought to be in her 30s, died on the westbound carriageway at the Caerleon Road intersection following the collision at around 10pm on Saturday.

Gwent Police said they did not know why she was on the road, but that there were no other vehicles nearby.

Ambulance staff pronounced her dead at the scene and the 46-year-old lorry driver was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital as a precaution but later released.

No-one was arrested.

The force is appealing for anyone who is concerned about a missing friend or relative who might be the pedestrian to contact them.

She is described as white, around five feet and seven inches tall and of heavy build, between size 18 and 20.

She has hazel eyes, shoulder length brown hair and a mole on her forehead above her right eye.

She was wearing a green Berghaus waterproof jacket, a black long-sleeved top with sequins around the neckline, jeans and size six-and-a half black trainers.

The woman was also wearing a Lorus silver bracelet watch and a yellow gold ring with three clear gemstones.

She had pierced ears but was not wearing any earrings.
