FIGURES out today show a rise in the number of calls to police over Hallowe’en in Gwent.

A total of 133 calls were made compared to 96 last year.

It seems children - and their parents - are still not getting the message.

Anti-social behaviour is unacceptable at any time of year.

One of the worst incidents was highlighted by the Argus yesterday when we told how youths tried to set fire to a home in St Julians, Newport.

Why aren’t parents taking more control of knowing where their children are, particularly at this time of year?

And with Bonfire Night approaching it’s even more vital parents take charge of their youngsters.

People should not have to put up with this behaviour.

The sooner parents get a grip the better.
