TACKLING crime and anti-social behaviour in her local area has earned a Newport woman recognition in the Community Crime Fighter awards.
Karen Seager of Darwin Drive, Malpas, was recognised at the awards reception which was held at 10 Downing Street by Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Home Secretary Alan Johnson.
The Argus reported last August how Mrs Seager helped to set up a Neighbourhood Watch scheme along with 20 residents to try and solve problems of racing motorbikes, litter and anti-social behaviour.
In the past, Mrs Seager has experienced youths trespassing on her property, mud thrown at her home and verbal abuse.
Through the group, all incidents of anti-social behaviour were recorded in order to gather evidence for police action.
The group also organised litter picks, local raffles and spoke to fellow residents about concerns to make the community feel safer.
The Community Crime Fighter awards are part of the Government’s 'Justice Seen, Justice Done' programme which aims to engage the public in the fight against crime.
