STUDENTS at a Chepstow after-school education centre are doing their bit for charity by collecting school boxes for a Christmas appeal.
Pupils at Kumon Education UK, which runs drop-in sessions for maths and English, are filling shoeboxes for the charity Link Romania as part of a national initiative.
The appeal differs from traditional shoebox initiatives by sending shoeboxes filled with items aimed at the whole family, such as small games, pens/pencils, deodorant, toys, gloves, soap and scarves.
Kumon instructor, Sarah Owen, said the group had collected more than a dozen boxes to send off.
She said: “The students are really excited about the appeal and have been busy collecting items for their shoeboxes. The appeal provides the opportunity for the students to learn about a different culture and the daily challenges faced by other communities.”
Kumon Education holds sessions at the Chepstow Methodist Church hall.
