A CWMBRAN teenager was arrested in Portsmouth yesterday on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a man died in a car crash.
The 19-year-old woman was the driver of a blue Peugeot 206, which crashed into a wall at The Lounge club in Granada Road, Southsea at around 2.15am yesterday.
A 22-year-old man from Folkestone, Kent, who was the front seat passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hampshire police say the car had just crossed a roundabout when it left the road and crashed into the club.
No one is believed to have been inside the club at the time of the crash.
Police cordoned off the road for about four hours, while they worked at the scene.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and taken to the Queen Alexandria Hospital in Cosham, where she was treated for minor injuries.
Residents living close to the scene of the incident were woken by a loud crashing noise.
Ashley Robinson, 18, from Granada Road, Southsea, said: “At first I thought it was fireworks. I got up to see what it was and saw there was a blue car halfway across the pavement. The front was completely smashed up. It looked really serious. The police and the ambulance were here really quickly and shut off the road.’”
Grim Hernandez, 21, from Granada Road, Southsea, said: ‘The crash woke me up. It was seriously loud, it sounded like an explosion. It was really worrying. I got up and saw the neighbours all looking out of their windows. It’s terrible.’
