GWENT man Ken Jones scored the winning try in the 1953 match against the All Blacks.
Then, New Zealand drew against Swansea and Ulster in their tour - meaning Wales were favourites to win their hotly-contested game.
But Wales were on the back foot at the start, with New Zealand taking an early lead.
After a last 20 minutes of Welsh pressure and with five minutes to go, ClemThomas made a dash down the left hand touchline. With his path cut off by the All Black defence, Thomas cross-kicked the ball and former international sprinter Jones, an old boy of West Mon School, took it on the bounce. He scored his most memorable and final try of his Welsh career, leaving the final score 13-8 to Wales.
Jones, who also played for the British Lions, Newport, Pontypool and Blaenavon, was later awarded the OBE. He died in 2006.
